Bhubaneswar: To accelerate renewable energy adoption and decarbonizing the energy sector, the Government of Odisha is drafting the Odisha Pumped Storage Project (PSP) Policy 2025. The policy aims to attract investment in PSPs while creating a conducive ecosystem for clean energy development in the state.
A key meeting was held today to discuss the draft policy, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. During the deliberations, Singh Deo provided valuable inputs on formulating distinct Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for state-identified and self-identified off-the-river PSPs. The policy will include detailed operational guidelines for the implementation and management of PSPs, ensuring clarity and efficiency in execution.
The meeting saw the participation of DC-cum-ACS Anu Garg, Principal Secretary of the Energy Department Vishal Dev, Engineer-in-Chief (Electricity) Pyarimohan Mishra, and senior officials from Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), GRIDCO, and the Water Resources Department.
The Odisha Renewable Energy Policy 2022, previously notified by the state government, laid the foundation for renewable energy expansion. Now, with the development of the PSP Policy 2025, Odisha is taking a strategic step towards energy storage solutions that will enhance grid stability, support large-scale renewable energy integration, and attract private sector investment in clean energy infrastructure.
The finalized PSP policy is expected to strengthen Odisha’s position as a leader in renewable energy, contributing significantly to the state’s energy security and sustainability goals.
