Odisha Govt Approves ₹11,939 Crore Proposal to Upgrade 6,794 Primary Schools as Model Institutions

Bhubaneswar: In a significant push for educational reform, the Odisha government has approved a ₹11,939.41 crore proposal to upgrade and transform 6,794 government-run primary schools into model schools under the Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya (GMAPV) Scheme.

The initiative aims to establish at least one model elementary school in every Gram Panchayat, focusing on inclusivity and quality education for marginalized communities in alignment with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009. By strengthening infrastructure, incorporating modern teaching methods, and fostering community involvement, the GMAPV Scheme seeks to create a robust foundation for equitable education and holistic student development.

The five-year project, spanning from 2024-25 to 2028-29, is designed to align with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and NIPUN Odisha, which emphasize foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills. Each school’s development cost is estimated between ₹1 crore and ₹4 crore, depending on enrollment, with actual expenditures determined by detailed project reports.

The transformation of these schools is expected to significantly improve educational access, enhance learning outcomes, and establish benchmark institutions for foundational education. The government believes this initiative will empower children socially and academically, fostering inclusive growth in the state.
