Odisha Govt Accelerates Paddy Procurement Amidst Kharif Season

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has intensified paddy procurement efforts during the ongoing kharif season, with operations fully underway in five districts—Bargarh, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, and Balangir. The process in other districts is set to begin soon in a phased manner, with extensive preparations already underway.

Registered farmers are being issued tokens and provided necessary information to streamline the process. Out of 803 mandis (procurement centers) currently active, 197 are in Bargarh, 78 in Nuapada, 129 in Sambalpur, 223 in Kalahandi, and 176 in Balangir.

Nodal officers have been deployed at each mandi to oversee and monitor the procurement process, ensuring efficiency and transparency. The government is also prioritizing basic facilities for farmers at these centers. As part of its commitment to farmers, the state government has mandated that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) be credited to farmers’ accounts within 48 hours of procurement. The Civil Supply Department is taking prompt and extensive measures to ensure this timeline is adhered to.

The state government’s focus on expediting paddy procurement and supporting farmers underscores its dedication to their welfare and development. By bolstering infrastructure and implementing farmer-friendly policies, Odisha continues to strengthen its agricultural framework.
