Odisha Felicitates Para Archer Payal Nag For Double Gold At World Series

Bhubaneswar: The Sports & Youth Services Department of the Odisha Government on Thursday felicitated para archer Payal Nag for her exceptional performance at the World Para Archery Series 2026 held in Bangkok, where she won two gold medals and secured qualification for the upcoming Para Asian Games.

Recognising her achievement on the international stage, the state government presented Payal with a special cash award of Rs 5.46 lakh for winning the two gold medals. She was also provided Rs 3.23 lakh towards procurement of sports equipment to support her future training and participation in international competitions.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by Sports & Youth Services Minister Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, Kantabanji MLA Shri Laxman Bag and senior officials of the Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), who congratulated the athlete and extended their best wishes for her future tournaments, including the Para Asian Games.

Praising Payal’s achievement, Sports Minister Shri Suryabanshi Suraj said her success had brought pride to both Odisha and the country.

“Payal Nag’s achievement on the international platform is an inspiration for aspiring athletes. Her determination, discipline and dedication reflect the growing strength of para sports in Odisha,” the Minister said.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Payal Nag said the support and encouragement received from the Odisha Government and public representatives had motivated her to continue striving for excellence.

“I am very happy to return to Odisha after this memorable achievement. The support extended by the Government of Odisha, the Hon’ble Sports Minister and MLA Shri Laxman Bag inspires me to work harder and perform better for the country in future competitions,” she said.

Officials said the Odisha Government continues to focus on strengthening sports infrastructure, financial assistance and high-performance support systems for athletes across disciplines, including para sports, to help them compete successfully at national and international levels.
