Odisha Felicitates 72 Athletes with Cash Awards for Outstanding Performance

Bhubaneswar: The Sports and Youth Services Department (DSYS) of Odisha today honoured 72 athletes for their exceptional achievements at national and international competitions. A total cash award of ₹3,85,500 was distributed across nine disciplines during a ceremony held at the Kalinga Stadium.

The event was graced by Deepankar Mohapatra, CEO of the Hockey Promotion Council of Odisha, who served as the Chief Guest. Mohapatra congratulated the athletes and highlighted Odisha’s unwavering commitment to supporting and nurturing sporting talent. “It is a moment of immense pride for us to celebrate the achievements of our athletes who have shown determination and dedication to excel in their respective sports. The government of Odisha is steadfast in its support for sports development and is committed to encouraging and nurturing talent. We believe that with continued support, our athletes will bring even greater glory to the state and the nation,” he said.

Also present were BK Swain, Additional Secretary of DSYS, Sailendra Jena, Joint Secretary of DSYS, and other officials from the department.

The cash awards were distributed to athletes from various sports disciplines, with Cricket receiving the highest amount of ₹1,10,500, followed by Sepak Takraw with ₹86,000 and Tennis Ball Cricket with ₹80,000. Other awards included Roll Ball (₹30,000), Fencing (₹20,000), Kayaking (₹25,000), Table Tennis (₹26,000), Handball (₹4,500), and Volleyball (₹3,500).

The DSYS emphasized its ongoing commitment to the welfare and recognition of sportspersons, ensuring they have access to the infrastructure, financial assistance, and resources needed to excel at the highest levels. The department remains dedicated to promoting sports across the state and ensuring that athletes continue to bring laurels to Odisha and India.
