Odisha FC Shines in Indian Women’s League 2023-24: Scoops Major Honours

New Delhi: The Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2023-24 season concluded with Odisha FC emerging as the dominant force, as announced by the All India Football Federation.

Odisha FC clinched the championship title, securing a prize of Rs 10 lakh for their stellar performance throughout the season. Additionally, the team bagged several individual awards, further solidifying their triumph in the league.

Among the standout performers, goalkeeper Shreya Hooda was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper, while Indumathi Kathiresan, the seasoned international and captain of Odisha FC, received the accolade for Best Midfielder. Odisha FC also earned the distinction for Best Media Operations, showcasing their comprehensive approach to communication and engagement.

Sports Odisha, another team hailing from the state, was lauded for their exceptional organizational skills and was awarded the title of Best Match Organisation.

Expressing her joy upon receiving the Best Midfielder award, Indumathi Kathiresan credited her teammates and coaches for their support and emphasized the collective effort behind her achievement. As the captain of Odisha FC, Kathiresan highlighted her role in guiding and inspiring the younger players, underscoring the team’s unity and camaraderie.

The awards ceremony recognized outstanding performances across various categories, with Gokulam Kerala FC’s Fazila Ikwaput clinching the title of Best Striker for her remarkable tally of 13 goals during the season. Hemam Shilky Devi from Gokulam Kerala FC was honored as the Best Defender for her defensive prowess and contributions to the team’s success.

  • Best Match Organisation: Sports Odisha (Rs 50,000)

  • Best Striker: Fazila Ikwaput – Gokulam Kerala FC (Rs 50,000)
  • Best Goalkeeper: Shreya Hooda – Odisha FC (Rs 50,000)
  • Best Defender: Hemam Shilky Devi – Gokulam Kerala FC (Rs 50,000)
  • Best Midfielder: Indumathi Kathiresan – Odisha FC (Rs 50,000).
