Odisha FC Secures Historic Victory, Advances to ISL Semi-Finals

Bhubaneswar: In a thrilling encounter at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha FC secured a historic victory over Kerala Blasters FC, clinching a spot in the semi-finals of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season. The Juggernauts scripted their maiden playoffs win with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph, marking a significant milestone in the club’s ISL journey.

Despite initially trailing in the game, Odisha FC displayed resilience and determination, staging a remarkable comeback to seal their place in the semi-finals for the first time in the competition’s history. Lithuanian striker Fedor Cernych ignited the team’s revival with a crucial goal in the 67th minute, leveling the score and setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

Diego Mauricio and Isak Vanlalruatfela emerged as the heroes of the night for Odisha FC, delivering decisive strikes in the 87th and 97th minutes respectively to propel their team to victory. Mauricio’s clinical finish, assisted by Roy Krishna, restored parity in the dying minutes of regular time, while Isak’s composed effort ensured Odisha FC’s passage into the semi-finals during extra time.

The encounter witnessed Kerala Blasters FC dominating proceedings early on, capitalizing on scoring opportunities to take the lead. However, Odisha FC’s spirited performance and relentless pursuit of goals turned the tide in their favor, culminating in a memorable triumph on their home turf.

Roy Krishna emerged as the standout performer for Odisha FC, orchestrating the team’s attacking maneuvers with two crucial assists. His stellar contribution, coupled with commendable passing accuracy and creative playmaking, played a pivotal role in Odisha FC’s historic victory.

With their eyes set on the ultimate prize, Odisha FC will now face off against the formidable Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the semi-finals. The two-legged clash scheduled for April 23 and April 28 promises to be an enthralling contest as Odisha FC aims to continue their remarkable journey in the ISL.

Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters FC’s campaign in the tournament has drawn to a close, concluding their spirited run in the ISL 2023-24 season.
