Odisha Explores Underwater Robotics for Infrastructure Safety

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is exploring the use of indigenous underwater robotics technology to strengthen the safety and sustainability of its reservoirs, dams, and river bridges. The idea was discussed today during a meeting between Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and Debendra Pradhan, Co-Founder of Coratia Technologies Pvt. Ltd., at Lokseva Bhawan.

Coratia Technologies, a start-up incubated at NIT Rourkela, recently achieved a major milestone by signing a ₹66 crore contract with the Indian Navy to supply advanced underwater robotic equipment. Appreciating the achievement, the Chief Secretary said the initiative not only reflects the growing potential of Odisha’s start-ups but also holds immense promise for the state’s infrastructure management and skill development.

Pradhan explained that the company provides end-to-end underwater solutions such as civil structure inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), bathymetry, sediment analysis, and structural health assessment. “Our expert team ensures reliable and efficient services for underwater maintenance, exploration, and rescue operations,” he noted.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that Odisha’s numerous large water reservoirs, old bridges, and dams could greatly benefit from such technology. He urged the start-up to deploy its expertise for safety inspections and preventive maintenance, ensuring long-term resilience of the state’s key infrastructure.
