Odisha Empowers Women Entrepreneurs Through ‘Odia Bridal Makeup’ Training Program

Bhubaneswar: The Mission Shakti Department, in collaboration with the World Skill Center in Bhubaneswar, has successfully trained women from various districts in ‘Odia Bridal Makeup,’ fostering entrepreneurship and economic empowerment among aspiring women in Odisha.

The second batch, comprising 30 women from 8 districts, recently completed the short course, equipping them with essential skills to establish salons in their communities. The training covered a range of aspects, including basic facials, bridal makeup, hair cutting, pedicures, manicures, shampooing, head massage, threading, and various spa treatments. The women utilized advanced facilities and equipment under the School of Services at the World Skill Center.

A grand ceremony held at the World Skill Center saw the women receiving completion certificates and makeup kits. Alka Misra, Chairperson of Odisha Skill Development Authority and CEO of World Skill Center, congratulated the women on their accomplishment. The event featured a fashion walk by Self-Help Group (SHG) women, showcasing their draping skills.

Sujata R Karthikeyan, Commission cum Secretary of Mission Shakti Dept highlighted the “SHG to SME” initiative, emphasizing the government’s focus on skill training for women in various advanced courses to make them economically and socially self-dependent.

Rashmita Subudhi, a Woman SHG member from Khordha, expressed her gratitude, stating, “World Skill Center has given a new beginning to my career and a chance to become self-dependent.”

Swarnima Badajena from Nayagarh emphasized the confidence gained through the ‘Odia Bridal Makeup’ course and its potential to create income opportunities for herself and other women.

The government provided free accommodations, food, and transportation for the SHG Women from various districts, ensuring accessibility to the training program.

The occasion was graced by Chief Operating Officer WSC Pinaki Patnaik, Principal Sangaran Gopal, Deputy Principal Subhanga K Das, and Director of School of Services Suguna Srinivasan. The ‘Odia Bridal Makeup’ initiative stands as a testament to Odisha’s commitment to women’s skill development and entrepreneurship.
