Odisha DGP YB Khurania Conducts Strategic Anti-Maoist Review in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: On his first official visit to Malkangiri since taking office, Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania has prioritized the intensification of anti-Maoist operations. Joined by DIG Operations Akhileshwar Singh and DIG (SIW) Kanwar Vishal Singh, DGP Khurania assessed the ongoing efforts to dismantle Maoist influence in the region, reiterating Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s objective to eliminate Maoist activity across the country by March 2026.

DGP Khurania’s visit, spanning Malkangiri and Koraput districts, began Thursday morning with a stop at the Gurasetu BSF camp in Swabhiman Anchal. Addressing local officials and media in Malkangiri, he emphasized the strategic importance of removing Maoist influence to secure long-term peace. Khurania noted that with the decline in Maoist presence, ganja (cannabis) trafficking, which Maoist groups previously encouraged, has also seen a significant reduction.

The DGP held a high-level meeting with senior officers from the police and BSF, focusing on locating and retrieving weapons left behind by Maoists. He emphasized that the retrieval of these hidden arms is essential to safeguarding the area’s residents and preventing any resurgence of Maoist activities.

Khurania will proceed to Koraput for further operational reviews and discussions on strengthening security measures in the district before returning to Bhubaneswar tomorrow. His visit underscores the state’s dedicated efforts to counter the Maoist threat and enhance safety for communities impacted by decades of insurgency.
