Odisha DGP Calls for Proactive Policing, Stronger Crime Monitoring Across State

Bhubaneswar: Stressing the need for stricter law enforcement and improved public safety, Odisha Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Sunday asked senior police officials to intensify crime monitoring, strengthen field-level policing and ensure quicker response to public grievances across the state.

During a high-level review meeting held at the DGP Camp Office in Bhubaneswar, Khurania reviewed the overall law and order situation, crime trends and investigation mechanisms. He directed district police authorities to adopt a more proactive policing approach and focus on visible enforcement in vulnerable and sensitive areas.

The DGP instructed Superintendents of Police and senior range officers to step up action against habitual offenders, execute pending Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) on priority and intensify drives against illegal drug networks. He also stressed strict action under the National Security Act (NSA) against notorious criminals involved in repeated offences.

To improve operational preparedness, Khurania made it mandatory for all police stations to conduct daily ‘Briefing Parades’ before 9 am. The briefings will focus on updates related to law and order, criminal activities, sensitive zones and progress of important investigations.

Highlighting the importance of emergency response systems, the DGP directed that all personnel deployed in Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) undergo professional and hands-on training to improve efficiency and response time during emergencies.

He further asked officials to strengthen beat patrolling, increase highway surveillance and launch special enforcement drives to prevent public nuisance and other criminal activities. Senior officers were instructed to closely supervise investigation of serious offences, including murder cases, to ensure timely arrests and speedy prosecution.

Khurania also directed police officials to launch awareness campaigns within the next 15 days to improve public outreach and highlight the service-oriented initiatives undertaken by the police department.

Senior officers including Vinaytosh Mishra, R.P. Koche and Sanjay Kumar attended the meeting.

Later, the DGP reviewed the functioning of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police, where discussions focused on urban policing, traffic regulation, public interaction and investigation of sensitive criminal cases. Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh and Additional Commissioner of Police Narasingha Bhol were present during the review meeting.
