Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the newly constructed Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bus Terminal in Baramunda, Bhubaneswar, today, marking a significant step in enhancing public transportation facilities under the 5-T initiative.

The bus terminal, formerly known as Bermuda Bus Stand, has been a bustling hub for numerous buses and passengers commuting within Odisha and beyond. Recognizing the challenges faced by passengers and aiming to improve services, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed the transformation of the Bermuda Bus Stand into a modern and efficient bus terminal.

Developed under the direct supervision of 5-T Chairman Karthik Pandian, the state-of-the-art Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bus Terminal is poised to provide enhanced services and contribute to the city’s identity.

In his address at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik highlighted the crucial role played by Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in drafting the Indian Constitution. Known as the architect of the Constitution, Baba Saheb’s immense contribution has been recognized by the Odisha government through the naming of the bus terminal in his honor. This gesture is a fitting tribute on the occasion of India’s 75th year of independence. To further honor Baba Saheb’s legacy, a dedicated gallery within the bus terminal has been created, offering insights into his life and ideals.

Expressing gratitude for the collective effort in realizing the bus terminal project, Chief Minister emphasized the crucial role played by bus owners, traders, passengers, and the public in its development. The bus terminal is designed to cater to diverse needs, offering a range of facilities including emergency services, commercial complexes, escalators, lifts, auditoriums, police facilities, driver’s restrooms, and food centers. The Chief Minister likened the terminal to an airport, ensuring passengers a comprehensive and comfortable travel experience.

While celebrating the inauguration of the Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bus Terminal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik called upon everyone to actively participate in the proper maintenance of the facility.
