Odisha CM Majhi Reviews Cyclone Dana Preparedness, Assures Citizens “You are in safe hands”

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of impending Cyclone Dana, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the state’s preparedness today at the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office, reassuring citizens that all necessary precautions are being taken.

Addressing the media after the review meeting, Majhi urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing that the government is fully prepared to manage the cyclone’s impact. “You are in safe hands,” the CM reassured, while appealing to citizens to stay alert and follow safety protocols until the cyclone passes.

Evacuations and Relief Measures

Majhi outlined that a massive evacuation operation is already underway, with 30 percent of residents from danger-prone areas already moved to cyclone shelters. The evacuation will continue overnight, with the goal of relocating 90 percent of those at risk by 11 AM tomorrow.

The government has ensured that dry food, cooked meals, and essential supplies are available at all cyclone shelters. Special arrangements have been made for the safe accommodation of evacuees.

Focus Areas and District Monitoring

The Chief Minister pointed out that the districts most likely to be severely impacted by Cyclone Dana include Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Puri. However, he warned that if the cyclone changes course, other districts could also be affected, and assured that the government is prepared for any eventuality.

Majhi also informed the media that ministers have been assigned to monitor cyclone-prone districts and have been dispatched to their respective locations following a cabinet meeting. Additionally, experienced officers have been tasked with overseeing the response efforts in each district.

High-Level Coordination and Real-Time Monitoring

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari joined Majhi during the review, along with senior officials including the Chief Secretary, Development Commissioner, Special Relief Commissioner, and other department heads. Through video conferencing, district collectors from affected areas briefed the Chief Minister on local preparations.

The Chief Minister also visited the Emergency Control Room at the SRC office, where he reviewed satellite data and inspected the state’s emergency communication systems, ensuring real-time coordination and communication across all departments.

Preparedness Measures

Majhi stressed the importance of staying informed and following official advisories as Cyclone Dana approaches the Odisha coast. The state government’s proactive approach, including round-the-clock monitoring and rapid evacuation efforts, is aimed at minimizing the cyclone’s impact and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

Cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra in the early hours of October 25, with wind speeds reaching 100-110 kmph, accompanied by heavy rainfall in coastal districts.
