Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an enhancement of the Death-Cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) limit from ₹15 lakh to ₹20 lakh for all regular state government employees. This decision will take effect retrospectively from 1 January 2024.
The enhancement follows multiple appeals from various Service Associations in the state, which had requested an increase in the ceiling limit of DCRG to align with the needs of retiring employees. The move is expected to provide substantial financial support to state employees upon retirement or in the unfortunate event of their death.
The Chief Minister’s decision brings Odisha in line with the Central Government, which had earlier raised the gratuity ceiling under the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021, also effective from 1 January 2024.
This increase is seen as a step towards improving the welfare of state government employees, offering them greater financial security in their retirement years. The revised DCRG will provide a more robust safety net for the families of deceased employees as well.
