
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated a special outlet of Boyanika at the Biju Patnaik International Airport today. This new showroom, located in the security hall on the airport’s first floor, aims to showcase and sell Odisha’s traditional handicrafts to a global audience.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Majhi highlighted the significance of the outlet in representing Odisha’s rich heritage of handicrafts. “This special showroom will not only display the dignity of Odisha’s traditional crafts but will also help in spreading the word about our exquisite handicrafts outside the state and country,” he said. He congratulated the departmental officers for their efforts in making this initiative a reality.
The Chief Minister also emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting local products under the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. “Based on this visionary idea, this outlet will contribute to promoting Odisha’s handicrafts and other local products at both national and international levels,” Majhi added.
Odisha’s handicrafts are renowned for their exceptional weaving styles and attractive designs, earning a significant place in both national and international markets. The Department of Handloom, Handicrafts, and Textiles, through the Odisha State Handloom Weavers Co-operative Society Ltd. Boyanika, has been instrumental in promoting these products globally.
The newly inaugurated outlet features nine GI-certified Odisha handloom products, including Kotpad Garment, Odisha Ikat, Khadua Saree, Gopalpur Tasar Garment, Dharapathar Curtains & Garment, Sambalpuri Bandha Saree & Garment, Bamkai Saree, Habaspuri Saree, and Berhampur Pat Saree & Phodakumbh Saree.
Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, along with Minister of Handloom, Textiles, and Handicrafts Department Pradeep Bal Samanta and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, were present at the inauguration. Principal Secretary Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee briefed the Chief Minister about the products available at the sales center. Other senior government officials also attended the event.
Passengers traveling from Biju Patnaik International Airport will now have the opportunity to purchase these exquisite GI-certified handloom products. To celebrate the opening, a special discount is being offered at the center for the next seven days.
