Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced on Monday that the Dr Babasaheb Bhimarao Ambedkar Inter-state Bus Terminal, currently in its final construction phase at Baramunda in Bhubaneswar, will feature a dedicated police outpost with a deployment of 89 personnel.
The police outpost will comprise two Sub-Inspectors, nine Assistant Sub-Inspectors, four Havildars, 72 constables, and two drivers, ensuring comprehensive security coverage for the bustling terminal.
Constructed under the ambitious 5T Initiative of the state government, the bus terminal is nearing completion, and sources indicate that the Chief Minister will soon dedicate it to the public.
Initially, the terminal is expected to facilitate the operation of 700 to 800 buses daily, with plans to scale up to 1,700-1,800 buses, serving an estimated 35,000-45,000 passengers regularly.
Recognizing the diverse amenities planned for the terminal, including a restaurant, multi-storied car parking, cafeteria, dedicated pick-up, and drop-off points, 144 bus bays, and a market, Odisha 5T Chairman V K Pandian strongly recommended the establishment of a police outpost. This measure is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the passengers and the overall functioning of the terminal.
The strategic placement of the police outpost aligns with the state’s commitment to providing a secure and efficient transportation hub for the people of Bhubaneswar. As the terminal nears its inauguration, these security measures are expected to enhance the overall experience for commuters and visitors alike.
