Odisha CM Announces Major Hike in Freedom Fighters’ Pensions

Bhubaneswar: In a heartfelt gesture to honor the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a substantial increase in their monthly pensions at the All India Freedom Fighters Day Festival held in the capital today.

The revised pension scheme significantly enhances the financial support provided to those who participated in India’s struggle for independence. Freedom fighters who were imprisoned during the movement will now receive ₹20,000 per month, doubling the previous pension of ₹10,000. Participants in the freedom struggle who were not jailed will see their pensions increased from ₹9,000 to ₹15,000 per month.

For beneficiaries under the national pension scheme for freedom fighters, the monthly pension has been raised from ₹8,000 to ₹10,000. Moreover, individuals detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency will also benefit from the new initiative, with their pensions increased to ₹20,000.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Majhi reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to honoring Odisha’s freedom fighters. “Their sacrifices and courage laid the foundation for our independence. It is our duty to ensure their contributions are remembered and valued,” he said, emphasizing the need to preserve their legacy for future generations.
