Odisha CM and Union Minister Inaugurate Rs 150-Crore Super Specialty Hospital at Burla

Bhubaneswar: In a significant boost to advanced healthcare infrastructure in western Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today jointly inaugurated a state-of-the-art Super Specialty Hospital at Burla in Sambalpur district. The facility, established on the premises of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), is expected to transform the medical landscape of the region.

Built over three acres of land with an investment of ₹150 crore, the hospital is the first government-run super specialty facility in western Odisha. It will cater not only to patients from at least 13 districts within the state but also to those from neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

“This hospital marks a major step in decentralising healthcare services in Odisha. It will provide quality medical care in super specialty disciplines to thousands, particularly those suffering from chronic illnesses such as sickle cell disease,” said Chief Minister Majhi. He added that the hospital is equipped with nine super specialty departments, modular operating theatres, a CT scan facility, an ICU complex, and other cutting-edge medical technologies.

The new facility houses a total of 272 beds, including 58 dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, making it one of the most comprehensive public sector medical centers in the region. The hospital is also expected to serve as a hub for medical education and research, further strengthening VIMSAR’s academic capabilities.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who represents Sambalpur in the Lok Sabha, encouraged the students of VIMSAR to commit to improving healthcare within Odisha. “After completing your education here, don’t look outside the state for jobs. Serve the people of Odisha as responsible doctors and help build a robust healthcare system,” he urged the young medicos.

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling and Sambalpur MLA Jay Narayan Mishra were also present at the inauguration ceremony, which was hailed as a landmark event for the region’s healthcare development.
