Odisha Cabinet Clears ₹579-Crore Upgrade of Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan Road Corridor

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet has cleared a major road infrastructure project to upgrade one of the capital city’s busiest traffic corridors, approving a ₹579-crore turnkey contract for the transformation of the Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan route into a high-capacity urban mobility corridor.

The contract has been awarded to M/s Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd., which submitted the lowest bid for execution of the project. The Works Department has already granted administrative approval of ₹949.35 crore for the comprehensive corridor development initiative.

The project covers a 9.5-km stretch extending from Kalinga Stadium Gate No. 4 to Raghunathpur Bridge and proposes to expand the existing six-lane road into an eight-lane corridor with modern traffic infrastructure to improve movement across Bhubaneswar and strengthen connectivity towards Cuttack.

A key component of the project will be the construction of multiple grade-separated junctions to reduce congestion at major intersections. Flyovers have been planned at Jaydev Vihar, Kalinga Hospital Square, Damana Square and KIIT Square, while Kalarahanga Junction will also undergo redesign and capacity enhancement.

Apart from road widening, the project includes integrated urban infrastructure such as service lanes, slip roads, improved drainage systems, pedestrian subways, underground parking facilities, landscaping, enhanced street lighting and dedicated road safety measures. Select junctions will also accommodate commercial development.

According to officials, the corridor has been planned to address growing traffic pressure, improve commuting efficiency and create safer pedestrian movement while supporting Bhubaneswar’s expanding urban footprint and long-term transport planning.

The agreement also includes a 10-year maintenance and defect liability period, during which the executing agency will be responsible for maintenance of both the corridor and avenue plantation.

The project is expected to be completed within two years under the turnkey execution model.
