Odisha Cabinet Approves ‘MAMATA-PMMVY’ Scheme Offering Higher Maternity Benefits from April 2025

Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Cabinet has approved the implementation of the state’s flagship maternity benefit scheme ‘MAMATA’ in convergence with the Central government’s ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’ (PMMVY). The unified scheme will operate under the co-branded title ‘MAMATA-PMMVY’ from April 1, 2025.

Under the revised scheme, financial assistance will be extended to pregnant and lactating women with enhanced benefits. Mothers will now receive ₹12,000 for the birth of a girl child and ₹10,000 for a boy child. Women from Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) will be eligible for the same amounts — ₹12,000 for each girl and ₹10,000 for each boy — for all live births, removing previous restrictions.

The Cabinet also approved increased incentives for frontline workers implementing the scheme. Anganwadi Workers will now receive ₹250 per case, while Anganwadi Helpers will receive ₹150, reflecting the state’s acknowledgment of their critical role in delivering maternal and child health services at the grassroots level.

The eligibility criteria under the Central PMMVY scheme will be applicable to beneficiaries of the co-branded MAMATA-PMMVY scheme, ensuring uniform standards and ease of access.

With this convergence, the Odisha government is expected to invest approximately ₹2,670 crore over the next five years, marking a major step toward strengthening maternal nutrition, promoting institutional deliveries, and reducing infant mortality.
