Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to support vulnerable sections of society, the Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to increase the monthly pension amount to ₹3,500 for eligible senior citizens aged 80 years and above and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) with a disability percentage of 80% or more. The enhanced pension will be provided under both the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) and the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), effective from January 2025.
The decision aims to provide additional financial assistance to some of the state’s most disadvantaged groups, ensuring they lead a life of dignity and security. This increase marks a significant step towards strengthening the social welfare framework in Odisha.
Currently, the pension beneficiaries under MBPY and NSAP receive varying amounts based on their eligibility. The enhancement to ₹3,500 per month reflects the state government’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of the elderly and the differently-abled.
