Odisha Blocks Entry of Out-of-State Paddy Trucks with 40 Enforcement Teams Across 9 Districts

Bhubaneswar: The paddy procurement process for the current Kharif season is in full swing across Odisha, with registered farmers receiving a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹2,300 per quintal along with an additional ₹800 as input assistance. The state government has implemented stringent measures to prevent paddy from other states from infiltrating Odisha’s mandis.

To tackle this issue, 40 enforcement teams comprising around 120 officers and staff have been deployed in border districts, including Bargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Koraput, Jharsuguda, and Nabarangpur. These teams actively monitor the movement of vehicles carrying paddy, ensuring compliance and preventing irregularities.

The state government has empowered these enforcement teams to act swiftly by seizing vehicles involved in any irregular activities. District collectors, in coordination with Civil Supply Officers, oversee the deployment of personnel and ensure that appropriate actions are taken promptly.

District administrations are also conducting extensive awareness campaigns, urging farmers and the general public to report any instances of irregularities. Strict instructions have been issued to ensure the transparency and fairness of the procurement process.

The government has assured that, if needed, additional teams will be deployed in a phased manner to reinforce the ongoing operations. These efforts reflect Odisha’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of local farmers and maintaining the integrity of the paddy procurement system.
