Bhubaneswar: With an aim to promote green energy vehicles and reduce dependency on fossil fuel, Odisha government on Friday approved Electric vehicle policy 2021.

The policy aims to achieve adoption of 20 percent Battery Electric Vehicle in all vehicle registration by 2025. It aims to promote manufacture of electric vehicles and its components including battery in the state, promote innovation and facilitate research and development in the areas relating to electric vehicles and battery

“It has been decided to extend financial incentives such as incentives available for manufacturing industries, purchase incentives, scrapping incentives, interest subvention in loans, waiving of road tax and registration fees during the policy period,” informed Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra during the cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

“It is necessary to reduce the emissions caused by different categories of vehicles plying on the road using traditional fossil fuels since they are contributing  a lot to climate change,” he added.

The policy also assures purchase incentives on EVs. While the two-wheelers and three-wheelers will get 15 percent  subsidy of Rs 5,000 and Rs 12,000 respectively, the four-wheeler buyers will get upto Rs 1 lakh.
