
Bhubaneswar: State athletes set to compete at the 37th edition of the National Games in Goa will receive cash incentives, announced by the Department of Sports and Youth Services, as per Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s directive. Gold medalists will be awarded Rs. 5 Lakhs, silver medalists Rs. 3 Lakhs, and bronze medalists Rs. 2 Lakhs for both individual and team events.
With a strong contingent of over 300 athletes, including 180 women, Odisha is geared up for participation in 31 diverse disciplines at the prestigious event.
Encouraging the athletes, Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera expressed confidence in their abilities and anticipated an outstanding performance from the Odisha contingent. “Our athletes have been consistently making a mark at various national and international events, and I am certain that the National Games will be no exception,” he stated.
Under the visionary initiative “Sports for youth, youth for future” by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the state has made significant strides in the sports domain. This includes upgraded training facilities, better coaching, improved sports infrastructure, and an array of supportive measures. The relentless efforts in talent identification and athlete development have culminated in a more resilient and determined contingent representing Odisha.
Recently Asian Games 2023 achievers were felicitated. Gold medalist Amit Rohidas received Rs. 1.5 Crore, while Deep Grace Ekka was awarded Rs. 50 Lakh for her bronze medal, and Javelin thrower Kishore Kumar Jena also received Rs. 1.5 Crore in appreciation of their outstanding performances.
