Odisha Agriculture Department Cancels Holidays to Prioritize Cyclone Dana Crop Damage Assessment

Bhubaneswar: Following Cyclone Dana’s destructive impact on Odisha, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment has canceled official holidays scheduled for October 26 and 27 to expedite assessments of crop damage in the affected areas. In a directive issued by the department, all officials across the impacted districts, as well as in Bhubaneswar, have been instructed to remain at their official headquarters, ensuring a rapid and coordinated response to the crisis. The notification stressed that any deviation from this order would be addressed with serious consequences.

Cyclone Dana, which made landfall in northern Odisha on October 25, affected approximately ten districts, with wind speeds reaching up to 110 km/h during its approach. The India Meteorological Department reported that the cyclone took over eight hours to move fully onto land, bringing heavy rainfall and high winds that led to significant damage across the region.
