Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is intensifying efforts to upgrade the State’s road infrastructure, with a renewed focus on improving connectivity, reducing congestion and supporting balanced regional development.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Works Department conference hall, Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh assessed the status of key road construction and widening projects across Odisha. The meeting underscored the government’s resolve, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, to build a strong and efficient road network linking major economic and urban centres.
One of the major projects discussed was the proposed 111-km Capital Region Ring Road around Bhubaneswar, envisaged to significantly ease traffic flow in the capital region. Shri Singh directed engineers and departmental officials to fast-track procedural requirements, including land acquisition and forest and environmental clearances, to avoid delays in execution.
Special attention was also given to traffic decongestion measures in Cuttack. To provide a seamless alternative route, officials were asked to prepare the alignment and Detailed Project Report for a new Greenfield road from Dhakulei Peetha to Kandarpur, enabling direct travel from Bhubaneswar to Jagatsinghpur and Paradip without passing through the city.
The meeting further reviewed progress on the Koraput–Mohana road project, covering a stretch of 206 km, with emphasis on expediting land acquisition and widening works. Similarly, the upgradation of the Khordha–Nayagarh road was discussed, and officials were instructed to adhere strictly to timelines laid down in the approved DPR.
Senior officials, including Engineer-in-Chief-cum-Special Secretary Lakshmikant Padhi, MoRTH Regional Officer Sunil Kumar, Chief Engineer, National Highways (Odisha) and other officers, participated in the meeting and assured close monitoring to ensure timely completion of these critical infrastructure projects.
