Odia poet Ashutos Parida to get Sahitya Akademi Award for his collection ‘Aprastuta Mrutya’

Bhubaneswar: Renowned poet Ashutos Parida from Odisha has been honoured with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for 2023 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Odia literature. The accolade is bestowed upon him for his remarkable Odia poetry collection titled ‘Aprastuta Mrutyu.’

The Sahitya Akademi Awards, which celebrate excellence in literature across 24 languages in India, were officially announced today. Each awardee will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh along with a copper shield, a token of acknowledgment from the Sahitya Akademi.

Born in Kendrapara district in 1946, Ashutos Parida pursued his engineering degree at the erstwhile Regional Engineering College (REC), Rourkela. He later earned his Ph.D. from IIT-Kharagpur and served as a scientist at CSIR-IMMT, formerly known as RRL, in Bhubaneswar.

Ashutos Parida is no stranger to literary acclaim; he had previously received the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry collection ‘Ipsita Krodha’ in 1990. His literary works, including ‘Aprastuta Mrutyu,’ have been translated into English, Hindi, and Bengali, demonstrating the widespread impact of his contribution to literature.
