Odia Film ‘Adieu Godard’ Bags 3 awards at a film festival in Italy

Bhubaneswar: Odia feature film Adieu GODARD, has won three International awards in the feature film category at the recently concluded Sipontum Arthouse International Film Festival in Italy. 

Amartya Bhattacharyya bagged the Best Director and the Best Screenplay award for the film, while Choudhury Bikash Das won the Best Actor award.

Overwhelmed with the news, acclaimed director and actor Choudhury Bikash Das said, “This is wonderful news and I am very happy for the award. The film is an honest attempt at bringing something special for the audience and am glad that it is getting due recognition. Thanks to Amartya, the entire team of Adieu Godard and the festival team for this special moment.”

Shot exquisitely in Odisha, the film ‘Adieu GODARD’ is a socio-cultural comic tribute to the legendary French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard.

Choudhury Bikash Das portrays the main protagonist named Ananda who is addicted of watching pornography secretly with his friends in a small village. They accidentally come across Godard’s film. While his friends were dissatisfied, Ananda developed an obsession with Godard’s film.

Sharing his happiness for the film getting recognition at the international platform, Amartya shared, “More than winning the best director and the best screenplay awards, I am particularly happy that Choudhury Bikash Das has won the best actor award.This international recognition was long due for a talent of his caliber. I think, all of us who make Odia films, have somehow failed to do justice to some outstanding talents that Odisha has.”

“I’m sure this recognition is just the beginning. And of course, three awards for ‘Adieu Godard’ from an Italian festival definitely means a wonderful start to the new year. I congratulate each and every talent who has been a part of this film,” he added.

Producer and actor Swastik Choudhury said “It is immensely satisfying to see someone of the stature of Choudhury Bikas Das getting international recognition which, I believe, is long due. Performers like him need to be seen and watched more by the international audience. Amartya has always been in the forefront of bringing new dimensions to cinema and I cannot thank him enough for his immense contribution to Odia cinema in international platforms. So happy and proud that he picked two awards here.”

The film has been receiving some rave reviews of late. It was also picked in the list of top 20 films of World Cinema by filmmaker, festival director and critic Arshad Khan. 

Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, Sudharsri Madhusmita, Swastik Choudhury, Choudhury Jayaprakash Das, Shankar Basu Mallick, Abhishek Giri, Swetapadma Satpathy, Sumit Panda, Sandip Bal, Sridhar Martha and Dr. Banikanta Mishra plays other important characters of the film.
