NTPC Wins Forward Faster Sustainability Award 2025 for Water Resilience

Chennai: NTPC Ltd., India’s largest integrated power utility, has been conferred with the prestigious Forward Faster Sustainability Award 2025 in the Water Resilience category. The award, presented by the UN Global Compact Network India (UN GCNI), recognizes NTPC’s outstanding initiatives in water conservation and sustainable water management.

The award was received by Harekrushna Dash, Executive Director (Sustainability, Environment & Ash), and K Karthikeyan, AGM (Environment & Sustainability), at a ceremony held in Chennai on February 13, 2025. The Forward Faster Sustainability Awards honor organizations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

NTPC has been at the forefront of sustainable water management, optimizing water use through the Reduce, Reuse & Recycle principles. The company has implemented advanced wastewater treatment plants, achieving 100% sweet water self-sufficiency at RGPPL, setting new industry benchmarks in water conservation.

Beyond its own operations, NTPC has taken proactive steps to enhance community access to clean water, restore local water bodies, and promote conservation awareness. These efforts have not only contributed to environmental sustainability but have also earned NTPC widespread recognition for its leadership in water resilience.

As India’s largest power producer, NTPC contributes nearly 25% of the nation’s electricity supply, with an installed capacity of over 77 GW and an additional 29.5 GW under construction, including 9.6 GW of renewable energy capacity. The company is actively working toward achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, reinforcing its commitment to a cleaner and greener future.

In addition to power generation, NTPC is diversifying into new energy sectors, including e-mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power, and green hydrogen solutions. With its focus on innovation and sustainability, NTPC continues to set new benchmarks in India’s energy landscape while championing global environmental goals.
