North East Girls Make Debut at NCC Republic Day Camp, Showcasing Cultural Richness

New Delhi: In a historic moment, a vibrant band of 45 girls from the North East region is making its debut at the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2024. Aged between 13 and 15, these girls not only represent the rich cultural heritage of the North East but also symbolize the NCC’s expanding influence to every corner of the country.

DG NCC Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh announced that a total of 2,274 cadets, including a record-breaking participation of 907 girls, are actively engaged in the month-long camp. Among them, 122 cadets hail from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, while 177 come from the North East. Additionally, the camp boasts the presence of cadets and officers from 25 friendly countries participating in the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP).

Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh emphasized that the Republic Day Camp aims to expose cadets to the nation’s rich traditions, reinforcing their value system. The camp serves as a platform for promoting national integration and fostering unity in diversity through cultural exchange programs. Distinguished dignitaries, including the Vice President, Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, Chief of Defence Staff, and the three Service Chiefs, are expected to visit the camp.

Reflecting on the NCC’s achievements in 2023, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh highlighted the organization’s commitment to national service. Notable accomplishments include organizing 39 Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat camps, two Vibrant Village area camps, three DRDO camps, and one Aerospace camp. The NCC’s presence in G20 events, successful mountaineering expeditions, and exceptional performances in sporting events were also commendable.

The DG NCC underscored the evolving training philosophy tailored to meet the changing aspirations of today’s youth. “The focus is on personality development, instilling leadership traits, and enhancing the soft skills of cadets to prepare them for future challenges. Our goal is to transform them into responsible citizens with a spirit of ‘Nation first,'” he emphasized.
