New Delhi: The online nominations and recommendations for the prestigious Padma Awards 2025, to be announced on Republic Day 2025, have commenced as of today. The deadline for submitting nominations for Padma Awards is September 15, 2024. Interested parties can submit their nominations through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in).
The Padma Awards, comprising Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, stand as some of the highest civilian honors in the nation. Instituted in 1954, these accolades are announced annually on Republic Day. They aim to recognize individuals’ exceptional achievements and service in various fields such as Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade, and Industry.
All citizens, regardless of race, occupation, position, or gender, are eligible for these Awards. However, government servants, except Doctors and Scientists, including those working with PSUs, are not eligible for Padma Awards.
The government is committed to transforming the Padma Awards into a representation of the people’s choices. Hence, citizens are encouraged to submit nominations, including self-nominations. Special emphasis should be placed on identifying talented individuals from among women, weaker sections of society, SCs & STs, and persons with disabilities, who are rendering selfless service to society.
Nominations and recommendations should include all relevant details specified in the format available on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal, along with a citation in narrative form (maximum 800 words) outlining the nominee’s distinguished and exceptional achievements or service in their respective field.
Further information regarding the nomination process is available under the ‘Awards and Medals’ section on the Ministry of Home Affairs website (https://mha.gov.in) and the Padma Awards Portal (https://padmaawards.gov.in). Additionally, the statutes and rules pertaining to these awards can be accessed through the Padma Awards Portal link: https://padmaawards.gov.in/AboutAwards.aspx.
