Nominations Open as First Phase of General Elections Begins

New Delhi: The electoral process for the much-anticipated General Elections to the Lok Sabha 2024 kicked off today as nominations began to be filed for the First Phase. The Election Commission of India issued a Gazette notification for 102 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) across 21 States and Union Territories (UTs) slated to go to polls in Phase 1.

Polling in the 102 Parliamentary Constituencies in Phase 1 is scheduled to take place on April 19, 2024. The First Phase encompasses a diverse range of States and Union Territories, highlighting the vast electoral landscape of India.

The States and Union Territories included in Phase 1 are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.

With the issuance of the Gazette notification, the process for filing nominations in the First Phase of General Elections has officially begun. Candidates vying for parliamentary seats in the designated constituencies can now submit their nominations as per the stipulated guidelines outlined by the Election Commission of India.

The electoral process for Phase 1 is set in motion with the commencement of nominations today. Following this, scrutiny of nominations and the withdrawal of candidature will take place on specified dates, leading up to the polling day on April 19, 2024.

As the electoral machinery springs into action for Phase 1, political parties and candidates gear up for a rigorous campaign period to garner support and mobilize voters. The First Phase sets the tone for the broader electoral narrative, shaping the contours of the political landscape in the run-up to the General Elections.
