Nitin Gadkari Reviews Automobile Industry’s Preparedness for Ethanol and Flex Fuel Vehicles

New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, held a comprehensive review meeting today with members of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) at Transport Bhawan to assess the industry’s preparedness for the introduction of ethanol and flex fuel-powered vehicles.

During the meeting, Gadkari highlighted the importance of transitioning from fossil fuels to biofuels, emphasizing the benefits for both the economy and the environment. He stressed that the adoption of ethanol and flex fuels would not only contribute to India’s goal of becoming self-reliant (Atmanirbhar Bharat) but also lower pollution levels, reduce the country’s annual fossil fuel imports, and provide consumers with cheaper fuel alternatives. In addition, the shift would directly benefit farmers by creating a new demand for ethanol derived from crops.

Gadkari encouraged SIAM members to expedite the launch of ethanol-powered vehicles, which are expected to hit the market in the coming months. He also urged the industry to find innovative ways to increase public acceptance of these fuels, citing Brazil’s successful implementation of flex fuels and biofuels in its transportation sector as a model for India.

“By switching to biofuels, we are not only reducing our dependency on fossil fuels but also supporting our farmers and cutting down on pollution,” said Gadkari. He stressed the need for collective efforts to educate consumers about the benefits of ethanol and flex fuels.

Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Harsh Malhotra, along with senior officers from the ministry, also participated in the review meeting. The discussion marked a critical step in the country’s drive towards cleaner, sustainable, and more affordable energy alternatives in the transportation sector.
