Nila Madhab Panda’s Odia Film, Kalira Atita, To Have Australian Festival Screening

Acclaimed Odia filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda’s first Odia film, Kalira Atita, which is based on climate change and sea-level rise due to global warming, is going to be screened at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The prestigious IFFM2021 will be held between August 15 and 30.

The filmmaker, who is known for making films based on climate change, global warming, and environmental and social issues, informed that with the IFFM screening, this Odia film will have its Australian premiere.

The film was earlier premiered in the prestigious Indian panorama at IFFI. The maker had also applied for the Academy Awards earlier this year. It also had own the National Award for best Odia Film.

The movie is based on real incident of sea-level rising and subsequent submerging of a coastal village in Kendrapara district of Odisha displacing hundreds of villagers. The story of the film also includes the 16th century Odia saint poet Achyutanand Das’ book Achyutanand Maalika that has the prophecy about the doomsday.
