Nila Madhab Panda’s Odia Film Eyes For Multiple OTT Release

Acclaimed Odia filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda’s first film in his mother tongue, Kalira Atita (Yesterday’s Past) is going to release on two national OTT platforms. The director informed The News Hashtag that the film would release on two video streaming and video on demand platforms MX Player and Mubi.

“We had discussed with several platforms. For now, MX Player and Mubi have agreed to release our film on their platforms. While it’s releasing on Mubi on September 3, this year, the release date on MX Player has not yet been decided. This is going to be a pathbreaking step for Odia filmmakers and content creators,” said the filmmaker, who rose to fame through his first Hindi film, I Am Kalam, that had won a national award.

Kalira Atita, starring Pitobash Tripathy, is based on a real story of seawater ingression and wiping out of a village in the Kendrapara coast of Odisha. The story also talks about the prophecies mentioned in the Achyutananda Maalika written by 15th century saint poet Achyutananda Das. Known for making films on social and environmental issues, Panda says that climate change is taking its toll on us, and it’s high time we must talk about its impact.

The film had won National Award for best Odia film, and was screened at the prestigious IFFI Goa in January. It also had entered into Oscars race. Earlier this month, the film had its Australian premiere at IFFM 2021. It has also been screened at several prestigious film festivals across the globe in last one year.
