Night Flea Market at Ekamra Utsav: A Fusion of Culture, Creativity, and Commerce

Bhubaneswar: The vibrant Night Flea Market, a major highlight of the ongoing Ekamra Utsav, has become a hub of cultural celebration and entrepreneurial spirit. Organized by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in conjunction with Pravasi Bharatiya Dibas, the market opened on January 5 and is drawing large crowds daily from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM, continuing until January 16.

This unique marketplace has turned the Ekamra Utsav into a dynamic destination for shoppers, culture enthusiasts, and tourists. With 33 diverse stalls, the market showcases an eclectic mix of offerings, including trendy clothing, handcrafted decor, organic food products, rural bazar items, handmade accessories, art, and traditional wear. Visitors can explore Odisha’s vibrant artistry through displays of terracotta work, Pattachitra paintings, stone carvings, and handlooms, blending modern creativity with traditional craftsmanship.

Beyond its commercial appeal, the Night Flea Market is a celebration of Odisha’s rich cultural traditions. Each evening features live performances by local artists, including singers, dancers, and folk performers. The stage also welcomes college bands, comedy acts, and emerging musicians, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere.

Master artisans captivate audiences with live demonstrations of traditional crafts, offering a glimpse into the meticulous artistry behind Odisha’s famed handicrafts. From wood carving to gilded cocoon weaving, these showcases foster a deeper appreciation for the region’s cultural heritage.

The market is not just a shopping destination but also a platform for emerging entrepreneurs, home-based businesses, and local artisans. Visitors have the chance to discover unique products while supporting local talent and fostering a sense of community.

From handmade toys and embroidered clothes to printed files, bags, and health-focused products, the market offers something for everyone. Each stall tells a story of creativity and passion, attracting visitors eager to find hidden gems and enjoy memorable shopping experiences.

As the Night Flea Market continues to thrive, it exemplifies the spirit of Ekamra Utsav—bridging the gap between tradition and innovation while celebrating the cultural vibrancy of Odisha. With its blend of commerce, culture, and community, the market has become a must-visit destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in the artistic richness and entrepreneurial dynamism of the region.

The Night Flea Market remains open until January 16, offering a few more days to shop, explore, and celebrate Odisha’s artistic heritage.
