NHPC Secures Bid to Develop 200 MW Solar Power Project in Gujarat

New Delhi: NHPC Limited, a leading hydropower company and a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has emerged victorious in the bid to develop a 200 MW capacity Solar Power Project in Gujarat. The project is slated to be established in the 1,125 MW RE Park of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (GSECL) at Khavda in the Kachchh district of Gujarat.

The solar project, once operational, is expected to yield approximately 473 million units of electricity in its first year, with a cumulative energy generation of about 10,850 million units over a span of 25 years. NHPC will spearhead the development of the project on a build-own-and-operate basis, with a tentative development cost estimated at Rs. 847 crores.

The e-reverse auction for the project was conducted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited on 2nd March, 2024, culminating in NHPC clinching the bid at a tariff rate of Rs. 2.66 per unit. The issuance of the Letter of Intent by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited on 14th March, 2024, marks a significant milestone in the project’s progression.

Scheduled to be completed within a timeframe of 18 months, the project represents NHPC’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and contributing to India’s sustainable energy transition. By harnessing solar power in Gujarat’s vibrant renewable energy landscape, NHPC aims to bolster the nation’s clean energy infrastructure and advance its renewable energy objectives.

The successful bid underscores NHPC’s expertise and strategic vision in the renewable energy sector, further solidifying its position as a key player in India’s sustainable energy ecosystem. As NHPC embarks on this transformative journey, it remains steadfast in its dedication to driving innovation, sustainability, and progress in India’s energy landscape.
