NHAI Sets Up Detailed Project Report Cell to Enhance National Highway Project Standards

New Delhi: In a bid to ensure the highest construction standards, cost effectiveness, and timely completion of National Highway projects, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has established a Detailed Project Report (DPR) cell at its headquarters in New Delhi. This new cell is designed to provide expert inputs and enable end-to-end monitoring of DPRs for National Highway projects, aiming to bring uniformity and quality assurance to the review process before project implementation.

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is a critical component for the successful execution of National Highway projects, encompassing various surveys, investigations, and designs related to the project. The establishment of the DPR cell will streamline the process of finalizing parameters for all highway components, including highways and structures, in accordance with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) specifications and standards.

The DPR cell will be staffed by a dedicated team of approximately 40 professionals, including Principal DPR Experts and domain experts in areas such as road safety, traffic, land acquisition, bridges, tunnels, geotechnical studies, senior highway design, and forest conservation. This team will develop mechanisms and monitoring systems to ensure a uniform review process throughout the DPR project lifecycle.

In addition to reviewing DPRs, the team will analyze bid documents and technical schedules related to National Highway projects, providing cost estimates based on design features. They will assist in planning pre-construction activities and integrate the projects with the Highway Information Model Software (HIMS). To ensure the practical viability of proposals, officials from the cell will conduct site visits to evaluate recommendations made by DPR/design consultants and suggest innovative practices to enhance the quality of DPR outputs.
