NHAI Achieves Record Concession Value of Rs. 15,624.90 Crore in 'InvIT Round-3'
New Delhi : To streamline traffic movement at toll plazas across India, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a subsidiary of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has developed a GIS-based software for real-time monitoring of waiting times at toll booths. The initiative aims to enhance the overall tolling experience and reduce congestion at these critical traffic points.
In its initial phase, around 100 toll plazas have been selected for live monitoring based on feedback received through the 1033 National Highway helpline regarding traffic congestion. The system will be gradually expanded to cover more toll plazas nationwide in subsequent phases.
The new web-based software will provide essential details such as the name and location of toll plazas, live updates on queue lengths in meters, total waiting times, and vehicle speeds. If the queue at a toll plaza exceeds the prescribed limit, the system will generate congestion alerts and provide lane distribution recommendations to manage the traffic flow.
In addition to traffic monitoring, the software will allow NHAI officials to analyze traffic conditions on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis, helping them to make data-driven decisions. This tool also integrates local weather conditions and important regional events such as festivals, enabling authorities to take preemptive measures to mitigate traffic surges.
