
Kanpur: To harness the power of Large Language Models (LLM) and Generative AI (GenAI), the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) and IIT Kanpur jointly organized a hackathon aimed at revolutionizing financial data interpretation. The event, held on March 28-29, 2025, challenged participants to develop AI-driven solutions that simplify financial statements, making them more accessible and comprehensible.
Students from leading engineering colleges across India participated in the event, where they were tasked with transforming complex financial data into engaging narratives to enhance decision-making. The hackathon fostered collaboration between academia, students, and regulatory bodies, promoting innovative approaches to financial reporting.
Presentations at the event showcased the transformative potential of GenAI in automating data extraction, simplifying financial concepts, and generating insightful narratives. Experts from IIT Kanpur and NFRA, who judged the competition, emphasized the growing role of AI in financial statement analysis and reporting.
Teams from VIT Vellore, MNNIT Allahabad, IIT Lucknow, and Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Nuzvid emerged as winners, impressing judges with their innovative AI-driven financial solutions. Notably, several winning teams chose to open-source their innovations, enabling further improvements and value additions by the developer community.
