New Power Substation Commissioned in Mayurbhanj to Improve Rural Electricity Supply

Bhubaneswar: Rural electricity infrastructure in Odisha received a major boost with the commissioning of a new 33/11 KV 10 MVA Primary Substation at Deuli in Mayurbhanj district by TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL).

The facility, inaugurated virtually by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, is expected to improve power reliability and voltage quality for more than 15,000 families residing in six panchayats — Chuhata, Kanimahuli, Nuagaon, Jhaliamara, Alakuda and Deuli.

Officials said the project will help ensure stable electricity supply for domestic and agricultural use while reducing frequent outages in the region. Improved power infrastructure is also expected to support essential services such as healthcare, education and local economic activities.

Addressing the inauguration programme, Singh Deo said strengthening the transmission and distribution network is crucial for Odisha’s development and energy security. He noted that the new substation would help rural consumers access better-quality electricity and encourage adoption of renewable energy initiatives.

The Deputy Chief Minister also urged residents to take advantage of the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana to reduce electricity expenses and promote clean energy usage.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra said reliable electricity plays a key role in improving the quality of life in rural areas and contributes significantly to overall regional development.

TPNODL Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Kale described the Deuli substation as a strategic infrastructure project aimed at meeting rising energy demand and strengthening the distribution network in northern Odisha.

The project was implemented under the supervision of senior TPNODL officials, including Chief Projects Pradeep Kumar Mohanty and Superintending Engineer Debadatta Panda.

TPNODL, a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has been expanding and modernising electricity infrastructure across northern Odisha to improve consumer services and ensure reliable power supply.
