New Entry and Exit Rules for Shree Jagannath Temple During Karttik

Bhubaneswar: To manage the large crowds expected during the holy month of Karttik, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has introduced new entry and exit rules at the Shree Jagannath Temple. These regulations, effective from October 18, aim to streamline the flow of devotees and ensure a smoother darshan experience.

According to the new plan, devotees will be allowed to enter the temple through the Singha Dwar (Lion’s Gate) and Paschima Dwar (West Gate) only. Exits will be facilitated through three alternative gates, with the Singha Dwar designated solely for entry. The SJTA’s release also clarified that these new rules will not apply to servitors and their family members.

The measures have been put in place to maintain order and improve crowd management, particularly with the influx of Habisyalis—elderly women who observe penance during the holy month.

The 12th-century shrine, which is one of India’s most revered temples, witnesses a significant rise in footfall during Karttik, as thousands of devotees visit for darshan of the deities. The SJTA’s new system is designed to ensure that the massive flow of devotees can be managed effectively while enhancing the overall experience during this auspicious time.
