Dehradun/Pune: On the third day of his official visit to India, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Nepali Army, focused on fortifying defence collaboration between India and Nepal. His engagements spanned key interactions with Indian defence industries in Pune and preparations to oversee the prestigious Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun.
The day commenced with General Sigdel visiting prominent defence establishments, including Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) and Bharat Forge in Pune. These visits highlighted India’s strides in defence manufacturing and innovation under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. During discussions with senior representatives, General Sigdel explored areas of technological adaptation and collaboration between the armed forces of the two nations.
A static equipment display showcased cutting-edge technology recently inducted into the Indian Army, further exemplifying India’s advancements in indigenous defence capabilities. General Sigdel praised the Indian defence sector for its contributions to self-reliance and the enhancement of military readiness.
After his engagements in Pune, General Sigdel departed for Dehradun, where he is set to review the Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) on December 14, 2024. This marks a significant moment in the enduring military partnership between India and Nepal.
On arrival, he attended the Reviewing Officers’ Dinner at the IMA and interacted with faculty members and dignitaries, emphasizing the deep-rooted camaraderie shared by the two nations’ armed forces.
As the Reviewing Officer, General Sigdel will inspect the graduating cadets, a ceremony steeped in tradition and pride. Among the graduates are Officer Cadet Binod Bhatta and Officer Cadet Prabin Pandey from Nepal, who will be commissioned into the Indian Army. Their inclusion underscores the shared legacy and robust defence cooperation between the two countries.
General Sigdel’s visit to India underscores the growing synergy between the Nepali and Indian armed forces. His engagements have been pivotal in fostering mutual trust, exploring technological collaboration, and reaffirming a commitment to shared security goals.
