Nearly 17.5 Lakh Farmers Register for Kharif Paddy Procurement in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The paddy procurement process for the current Kharif season is underway in Odisha, with an impressive 17,49,987 farmers from all 30 districts registered to participate. The procurement drive began in Bargarh district on November 20 and will continue across the state until March 31.

Bargarh district leads the registration tally with 1,55,617 farmers, while significant numbers have also registered in Balasore, Ganjam, and Kalahandi districts. To streamline the process, applications undergo field-level verification before tokens are issued to farmers for paddy procurement. A three-tier verification of farmers’ accounts is also being conducted to ensure accuracy and transparency. Measures have been implemented to ensure that no eligible farmer is left out, with payments being credited to farmers’ accounts within 48 hours of procurement.

The state has set up 3,903 mandis across the 30 districts to facilitate the process. These procurement centers are equipped with necessary arrangements for farmers, and district collectors are actively addressing any complaints to ensure smooth operations.

The paddy procurement initiative highlights the state government’s commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring a fair and efficient process. With systems in place for timely payments and grievance redressal, Odisha aims to make this procurement season beneficial for its farming community.
