
NCTE and CBSE Collaborate for National Conference on Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) Transformation
New Delhi: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), organized a one-day National Conference on Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) on February 12, 2024, to explore and discuss transformative changes required in the light of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP).
Addressing the inaugural session, Ms. Kesang Y. Sherpa IRS, Member Secretary NCTE, highlighted that the National Education Policy 2020 recommends the implementation of TET at various levels. NCTE is actively working towards proposing and implementing TET at the secondary level (Class 9 to Class 12).
Smt. Nidhi Chhibber IAS, Chairperson CBSE, emphasized the crucial role of a teacher’s capability in creating an effective classroom environment. The Teacher Eligibility Test plays a vital role in assessing the competency and efficiency of a teacher. CBSE, with its extensive experience in conducting TET examinations, expressed readiness to collaborate with NCTE by sharing data and implementing future plans together.
Shri Vikram Sahay IRS, Principal Commissioner, Income Tax, highlighted various aspects of TET, noting that challenges differ at different levels of education, necessitating standardization for eligibility at each level.
Prof. Yogesh Singh, Chairperson NCTE, stressed the shift from focusing solely on marks to developing Indian ethos and values in students, aligning with the vision of NEP 2020. He emphasized the importance of quality education, stating that education’s purpose is to develop understanding in individuals.
Shri. Abhimanyu Yadav, Convener TET from NCTE, delivered a detailed presentation on the journey of TET in enhancing the quality and capability of school teachers since its inception. The presentation covered examination processes, eligibility standards, and the importance of selecting qualified teaching professionals in alignment with NEP 2020.
During the panel discussion in the conference, Prof. H.C.S. Rathore, Former Vice Chancellor, Central University of South Bihar, and Prof. R.C. Patel, Retd. Professor MS University Baroda, Vadodara, Gujarat, addressed queries raised by participants. Representatives from various States and Union Territories of India shared their experiences with the Teacher Eligibility Test, discussing best practices for preparation and the revamping of TET in the light of NEP 2020.
In the concluding session, the Convener TET extended gratitude to all academic dignitaries, education administrators, and participants for their valuable contributions to the national conference. The collaborative effort aims to shape the future of teacher assessments in line with the evolving educational landscape and the goals outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
