NCGG Launches Mid-Career Training Programme for BIMSTEC Civil Servants and 34th Capacity Building Programme for Maldives Officials

Mussoorie: The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) has initiated two significant training programmes aimed at enhancing the administrative capabilities of civil servants from the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) countries and the Maldives. The inaugural Mid-Career Training Programme for BIMSTEC civil servants, along with the 34th Capacity Building Programme for civil servants from the Maldives, began today and will run until October 25, 2024. The training will be conducted at both Mussoorie and New Delhi.

A total of 36 civil servants from BIMSTEC nations—Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, and Bhutan—are participating in the mid-career programme, while 35 Maldivian civil servants are part of the capacity-building programme. These officials hold key positions such as Divisional Secretary, Additional District Secretary, Deputy Chief Secretary, Assistant Commissioners, Directors, and Council Executives, representing various ministries in their respective countries.

The joint inauguration was led by V. Srinivas, Director General of NCGG and Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), who welcomed the participants and highlighted the programme’s goal to bolster the skillsets of civil servants amidst the rapidly evolving landscape of administrative reforms. In his address, Srinivas emphasized the critical role of digital governance and the need for citizen-centric governance models to improve public service delivery by bridging the gap between government offices and citizens.

Dr. A.P. Singh, Associate Professor at NCGG and Course Coordinator for the Mid-Career Training Programme for BIMSTEC civil servants, provided an overview of the NCGG’s achievements and milestones in governance training over the years. Dr. B.S. Bisht, Associate Professor and Course Coordinator for the 34th Capacity Building Programme, similarly outlined the objectives and structure of the training for Maldivian civil servants.

During the two-week programme, participants will undergo extensive training focusing on innovative governance models, digital transformation, and public service reforms. As part of the second phase, participants will visit key institutions and projects across India, including the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Smart City Project and ITDA, Smart School in Dehradun, Haryana Institute of Public Administration, AIIMS, and the National Science Centre. A visit to Maruti Udyog Limited and the iconic Taj Mahal is also planned, providing exposure to India’s diverse governance practices and cultural heritage.
