National Institutes Lead Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 with Nationwide Campaigns

New Delhi: The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is spearheading Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 with a series of nationwide activities aimed at fostering mental health awareness and building inclusive communities that prioritize mental well-being.

At the forefront of these efforts, the National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation (NIMHR) in Sehore has launched a dedicated campaign titled ‘Mental Health at the Workplace’. The campaign features multiple workshops designed to inspire collective action towards creating supportive and healthy work environments. By highlighting the critical role of workplaces in maintaining individuals’ mental well-being, NIMHR is advocating for more inclusive, mentally healthy workspaces across India.

In addition, the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), located in Secunderabad, inaugurated the week with a motivational rally, energizing the community and raising awareness about mental health issues.

Meanwhile, the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD) in Kolkata and the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (Pt. DDU NIPPD) in New Delhi are hosting a variety of workshops, health camps, and interactive activities to engage local communities and provide support.

These efforts, led by the DEPwD and its institutions, are working to create a national dialogue around mental health. By engaging people from all walks of life, the initiative seeks to foster a culture where mental well-being is prioritized, ensuring every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 aims to build awareness and encourage action towards better mental health for all, laying the foundation for more inclusive and supportive communities throughout India.
