National Conference on GST Enforcement to Strengthen Resolve Against Tax Evasion

New Delhi:  To bolster the enforcement of Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Department of Revenue, operating under the Ministry of Finance, is set to host a National Conference of Enforcement Chiefs from all State and Central GST formations in New Delhi on Monday, March 4.

The conference will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, who will also deliver the keynote address. Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, is also expected to be present, emphasizing the significance of the event.

The key focal points of the one-day conference include:

  1. Combating GST Evasion: Participants will delve into the existing challenges faced in curbing GST evasion, examining successful methodologies employed by both State and Central enforcement authorities.
  2. Combating Fake Invoicing: Addressing the primary form of GST evasion, discussions will revolve around strategizing effective methods to collaboratively combat fake invoicing, a crucial concern for tax authorities.
  3. Sharing Best Practices: The conference aims to facilitate knowledge exchange through presentations by State and Central enforcement heads, showcasing successful strategies and innovative approaches for tackling tax evasion.
  4. Fostering Synergy: Emphasizing the need for a unified approach, the conference will explore ways to build deeper collaboration and foster greater synergy between State and Central enforcement authorities.
  5. Leveraging Technology and Data: Exploring the potential of advanced technological tools and data analytics to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of enforcement efforts, participants will discuss the role of technology in strengthening GST administration.
  6. Balancing Ease of Doing Business: Striking a crucial equilibrium between facilitating a smooth business environment and implementing effective, deterrent enforcement measures will be a key area of consideration.

Embracing the spirit of cooperative federalism exemplified by GST, this conference serves as a valuable platform for both Centre and State GST Enforcement authorities to share best practices, foster mutual learning, and collectively strengthen the GST administration.
