National Centre for Good Governance Initiates 32nd Capacity Building Programme for Maldives Civil Servants

Mussoorie:  The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), an apex-level autonomous institution of the Government of India, has launched its 32nd Capacity Building Programme, focusing on enhancing the skills and knowledge of senior civil servants from the Maldives. The one-week program, taking place from February 5 to February 9, 2024, brings together 40 educationists from the Maldives.

The comprehensive course aims to provide insights into various aspects of governance and administration. Key sessions include discussions on India-Maldives Relations, Fintech and Inclusion, Public Policy and Implementation, Ethics in Administration, Leveraging Technology in Disaster Management, Climate Change, and its impact on biodiversity. Other topics covered encompass Behavioural Change Management, Agro-Based Practices in Coastal Regions, Digital Health in India, Leadership, Coordination, and Communication Skills, E-Governance and Digital India, Gender and Development, and the Approach to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by 2030.

As part of the program, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Smart City Project and the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) in Dehradun. Additionally, a visit to a Smart School in Dehradun is also scheduled.

NCGG has achieved a significant milestone by conducting capacity-building programs for 1000 Maldives Civil Servants from 2019 to 2024, under the India-Maldives Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NCGG and the Civil Services Commission of the Maldives. The programs have been attended by Permanent Secretaries, Secretary Generals, and Deputy Permanent Secretaries over the past five years.

Maldives civil servants have greatly benefited from exposure to India’s flagship programs and initiatives, particularly those focused on leveraging technology to bring citizens and government closer. Over the years, several group work presentations on technology adoption in the Maldives have been made, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two nations.

The capacity-building initiatives underscore the commitment of both countries to fostering strong partnerships, sharing best practices, and promoting effective governance for the benefit of their citizens.

This initiative reflects the shared commitment of India and the Maldives to fostering strong partnerships, sharing best practices, and promoting effective governance for the benefit of their citizens.
