Mumbai Teen Saanvi Tripathy Brings Digital Dreams to Life for Bhubaneswar Slum Girls

Bhubaneswar: In an inspiring act of youth-led philanthropy, 16-year-old Saanvi Tripathy from Mumbai has transformed the digital aspirations of girls in Banafula Basti, Bhubaneswar, into reality. A student and advocate for social equity, Saanvi recently delivered a desktop computer to the underserved community, fulfilling a critical need expressed by young girls eager to learn computer skills.

Her gesture comes as part of her ongoing collaboration with ActionAid and the Centre for Child and Women Development (CCWD), organisations dedicated to promoting the rights and empowerment of urban women and children. During a visit to the slum settlement, Saanvi was struck by the girls’ enthusiasm for digital learning, despite their lack of access to even a single computer.

Determined to bridge this gap, Saanvi launched a personal grassroots campaign to raise funds—selling old newspapers and books, hosting bake sales, and organising second-hand book drives. Months of tireless effort culminated in the purchase and installation of a desktop system at the community centre in Banafula Basti.

“I believe change begins with listening,” Saanvi said. “The girls in Banafula Basti inspire us all with their drive to learn. My hope is that this small step helps unlock a world of knowledge and opportunity for them.”

The impact of her initiative was immediate and heartfelt. “This is a great opportunity for our young girls to gain digital literacy,” said Dipa Nayak, a member of the Bhubaneswar Young Urban Women Forum. “We are very happy to receive a computer system right at our doorstep, thanks to Saanvi.”

Saanvi’s effort has been widely praised by ActionAid and CCWD, who see her contribution as a model of youth engagement and civic responsibility. Her story underscores the power of empathy-driven action and the importance of youth participation in advancing inclusive education and digital access.

With one computer and a lot of heart, Saanvi Tripathy has opened new horizons for a group of girls who now see their digital dreams a little closer to reality.
